Important Characters
- Antonio – A kind and wealthy merchant.
 - Bassanio – Antonio’s best friend, who wanted to marry Portia.
 - Portia – A smart and rich lady, who saved Antonio in court.
 - Shylock – A strict moneylender who wanted revenge on Antonio.
 - The Duke – The judge in Antonio’s court case.
 
The Three Caskets Test
- Gold Casket: “Whoever chooses me shall gain what many men desire.”
 - Silver Casket: “Whoever chooses me shall get as much as he deserves.”
 - Lead Casket: “Whoever chooses me must give and hazard all he has.” (Bassanio chose this and won Portia.)
 
Key Court Scene Events
- Shylock refused to accept money and wanted Antonio’s flesh.
 - Portia, as a lawyer, said Shylock could take flesh but not shed blood.
 - Shylock lost the case and had to show mercy.
 - Antonio was saved, and later his ships returned safely.
 
Moral of the Story
- Kindness is greater than money.
 - Revenge leads to loss, but mercy leads to happiness.
 - Greed can make people blind to what is right.
