A Kabaddi Match


POINTERS


1. Form pairs. Make a list of as many games as you can. (At least 25)
Then classify the games using the following criteria :
Indoor and outdoor games.
Answer :  Indoor Games: Chess, Carrom, Table Tennis, Badminton
Outdoor Games: Cricket, Football, Basketball, Kabaddi

Games played with and without any equipment.
Answer :  Games with Equipment: Cricket (bat & ball), Tennis (racket), Hockey (stick), Badminton (shuttle)
Games without Equipment: Kho-Kho, Kabaddi, Wrestling

Games which have one-to-one matches and those in which teams play against each other (Single player or team)
Answer :  Single-player Games: Chess, Carrom, Gymnastics
Team-based Games: Cricket, Football, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho

Games played mostly by children and games played by adult players.
Answer :  Games mostly for Children: Hide and Seek, Kho-Kho
Games mostly for Adults: Golf, Rugby, Baseball

Shape and size of the court or field.
Answer :  Rectangular Fields: Football, Basketball, Kabaddi
Circular Fields: Ice Skating, Cycling


2. Read the description of the Kabaddi match and do the following :
(a) Note down the names of the players and say whether each one belongs to 9 A or 9 B
Answer :  9A Team: Govind, Mangesh, Sohan, Vivek
9B Team: Ravi, Mohan, Vinod, Ajinkya, Mihir, Suresh

(b) Describe, in your own words, the important events in the first half.
Answer :  The match started, and 9A won the toss.
Govind from 9A raided first and scored a point.
Ravi from 9B, a strong player, trapped players tightly.
Mangesh from 9A was caught but managed to cross the midline, scoring three points.

(c) Write, in your own words, what happened in the second half.
Answer :  Mihir from 9B raided and tagged Sohan from 9A.
Vivek from 9A tricked the opponents and crossed the midline, leading to all of 9B being declared out.
After halftime, 9A outplayed 9B, catching all strong players like Ravi, Mohan, and Ajinkya.
9A won the match with better team spirit, confidence, and strategy.


3. List all the words specially used in the game of Kabaddi.
Answer :  Raider, Midline, Anti-raiders, Bonus points, Lona, Tagging, Breath control, Court


4. From the internet or other sources, find the other names by which Kabaddi is known in different parts of our country and the world.
Answer :  India: Sanjeevani, Gaminee, Amar
Bangladesh: Ha-du-du
Iran: Kabaddi
Nepal: Do-do
Sri Lanka: Guddu


5. What characteristics are needed to be a good player of Kabaddi ? What should you do to develop each ? Discuss this in groups of 5 and write a composition on it.
Answer :  Important Characteristics – Strength, Speed, Strategy, Quick thinking, Teamwork, Determination

How to Develop Them?
Strength: Regular exercise and gym workouts
Speed: Running and sprint practice
Strategy: Watching and analyzing Kabaddi matches
Quick Thinking: Playing mind games like chess
Teamwork: Practicing with teammates
Determination: Mental strength and motivation


6. Read the following note from a school girl’s diary :

Write diary entries for the interesting or important events that take place in your school. Write at least 3 entries.
Answer :  खालील तुमच्या अनुभवासाठी एक उदाहरण आहे, पण ईविद्यर्थी तुम्हाला तुमचा स्वतःचा अनुभव लिहिण्यास प्रवृत्त करते.

Example Diary Entries
Sports Practice Day:
Today, we had our first sports practice session. It was tiring but fun! Our team worked hard, and I am excited for the big match.

Kabaddi Match Day:
The match was thrilling! Our team played well, and we won. Mangesh was the hero of the game. I will never forget this day!

Prize Distribution:
Our team received medals today. I felt so proud when our names were called. This victory has motivated me to practice even harder.


8. Complete the Sentences

9. Read the following words and name the degree of comparison shown by each.
