1. What do the following words in the poem mean ?

Do these words have other meanings ? List them.
Answer : Meanings of the words in the poem:

  • Crown – A silver coin that was used in England in the past.
  • Round – A shape that is circular.
  • Draw – To pull something, like drawing the window blind.
  • Blind – A cover for a window that keeps out light.

Other meanings of these words:

  • Crown – The top part of the head, or a decorative headpiece worn by a king/queen.
  • Round – A complete turn or a round of a game.
  • Draw – To make a picture using a pencil or crayon.
  • Blind – A person who cannot see.

2. Find four pairs of rhyming words from the poem.

3. In each of the following line, spot the sound that is used repeatedly –

Answer : A silver house in the lovely sky – The moon.

Answer : It takes two weeks to build it up – The moon slowly becomes full in two weeks (waxing).
(c) And two to pull it down.
Answer : And two to pull it down – The moon slowly disappears in two weeks (waning).


9. Form pairs. Write a poem with rhyming lines on at least one of the following :
the moon, stars, a tree, a flower, a river/lake, rain, the wind, clouds.
Answer : I look at the stars
