Answer : Pali language.

Answer : Sri Lanka.


2. Think and expand:
1. Indian culture had an impact on Southeast Asia.
Answer : Indian culture influenced Southeast Asia in various ways. The Sanskrit language was known in Cambodia, and Indian-style temples of Lord Shiva and Vishnu were built in different countries. Dance-dramas based on the Ramayana and Mahabharata are still popular in Indonesia today. The spread of Buddhism also contributed to this cultural connection.

2. The spread of Buddhism in China became easier.
Answer : The spread of Buddhism in China was made easier because Indian Buddhist monks like Dharmarakshaka and Kashyapmatanga translated Buddhist texts into Chinese. Trade relations between India and China through the Silk Route also helped in spreading Buddhism to China, and later to Japan, Korea, and Vietnam.


3. What would you do if you are encouraged in your favorite hobby?
Answer : If I am encouraged in my favorite hobby, I would practice it more and try to improve my skills. I would also participate in competitions, learn from experts, and share my hobby with my friends and family.


4. Describe a picture
Answer : The Gandhara style sculpture on a stupa in Hadda, Afghanistan, shows strong Greek influence. The statue has facial features similar to Greek people. The figures are dressed in Greek-style costumes, and musical instruments and other objects from Greek culture are visible in the carvings. This style of art emerged during the Kushana period in India.

The Gandhara style of art developed during the Kushana period and was influenced by Greek art. The statues of Buddha in this style have sharp features, curly hair, and flowing robes similar to Greek sculptures.

The Silk Route:
The Silk Route was an ancient trade route that connected India, China, and Europe. Indian merchants used this route to trade silk, spices, and other goods. It also played an important role in spreading Buddhism to China and beyond.


6. Mark the countries of Southeast Asia mentioned in the chapter on an outline map.
Answer : The countries to be marked on the map are Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Sri Lanka.
