Compere a Programme
What is a Compere?
- A compere is a person who hosts or conducts a programme. They welcome everyone, introduce the events, and keep the programme running smoothly.
- This chapter is a script (written plan) for a compere hosting a School Art Festival at Balanand Vidyalaya.
1. Getting Ready for the Programme
- The compere starts by greeting everyone: “Good Morning friends!”
- They welcome the audience to the School Art Festival and ask them to take their seats.
- The compere politely requests everyone to switch off their mobile phones or put them on silent mode.
- Purpose: To enjoy the programme without distractions and focus on the students’ creative talents.
2. Arrival of the Dignitaries
- The compere announces that the dignitaries (important guests) have arrived.
- They ask the audience to sit down.
- The Head Girl, Miss Shubhada Murarka, is asked to bring the dignitaries to the dais (a raised platform where guests sit).
3. Commencement (Start) of the Programme
The compere welcomes everyone formally:
- Chief Guest: Shri. Charudatta Diwan (a famous artist).
- President of Balanand Education Society: Shri. Avadhoot Pathak.
- Principal: Dr. Ajinkya Parakhi.
- Vice Principal: Dr. Shaila Singh.
- Other guests, parents, teachers, and students.
The occasion is the inauguration (official opening) of the School Art Festival.
4. Lighting the Lamp
The programme begins with a traditional activity: lighting a lamp.
The compere invites the dignitaries on the dais to light the lamp and offer prayers.
Meaning of the Lamp:
- The lamp represents knowledge and learning.
- It removes darkness (ignorance) and spreads light.
- One lamp can light many others, just like knowledge spreads without decreasing.
After this, Miss Anagha Bhatia (from Std VII) and her group sing the School Song.
5. Welcome and Introduction of the Guests
The compere explains the Indian saying: “Atithi Devo Bhava” (Guests are like gods).
They introduce and welcome the guests:
- Chief Guest: Shri. Charudatta Diwan
- A famous artist and painter.
- President of Kala Ranjan Academy.
- Winner of many awards.
- The Principal gives him books (Two Volumes of Cherished Lives of Great Artists) as a gift.
- President: Shri. Avadhoot Pathak
- Welcomed by the Art teacher, Ms. Shilpa Sanghani.
- Principal: Dr. Ajinkya Parakhi
- Welcomed by the School Captain, Ms. Shubhada Murarka.
- Vice Principal: Dr. Shaila Singh
- Welcomed by Ms. Anagha Bhatia.
Books are given instead of flowers because books last longer.
6. Introductory Speech
- The compere invites the Principal, Dr. Ajinkya Parakhi, to give a speech.
- The speech explains what the Art Festival is about.
7. Book Release
- A special book is released during the programme.
- The book has photos of artwork made by students, displayed in the auditorium.
- The Chief Guest, Shri. Charudatta Diwan, releases the book and officially starts the Art Festival.
- The compere tells the audience they can visit the art exhibition after the programme.
8. Cultural Programme
The compere introduces the performances:
- Taal Kacheri (Music Performance):
- A group of talented students plays music.
- Sahil (Std X A) sings a song.
- Other students play instruments:
- Varsha: Mridangam.
- Vivek: Dholak.
- Zubin: Tabla.
- Govind: Ghatam.
- The audience claps for their great performance.
- Koli Dance:
- Students from Std VII C perform a traditional dance from Maharashtra.
- Comedy Play:
- Students from Std IX C act in a funny play called The Boy Comes Home by A.A. Milne.
The compere praises all the performances.
9. Prize Distribution
- The compere announces the prize distribution for the Art Festival.
- They say everyone is talented, but some students did extra well and deserve awards.
- The Chief Guest gives prizes to the winners in different art categories.
10. Address by the Chief Guest
- The compere invites Shri. Charudatta Diwan to speak to the audience.
- His speech teaches everyone about art and culture.
- The compere thanks him for his wise and inspiring words.
- (Note: The script repeats this section by mistake, but it happens only once.)
11. Vote of Thanks
- The compere thanks everyone who helped make the Art Festival successful.
- They invite the Art teacher, Ms. Shilpa Sanghani (the convener), to give the formal vote of thanks.
- This marks the end of the programme.
