1. Answer the following questions in brief.

1. What do you understand by ‘fundamental rights’?

Answer: Fundamental rights are the basic rights guaranteed by the Indian Constitution to all its citizens. These rights ensure equality, liberty, and protection from injustice, exploitation, and discrimination. Since they are included in the Constitution, they have the status of law, and everyone must abide by them.

2. Name the awards that are conferred by the Government upon people for their distinguished contribution in different fields.

Answer: The Government of India confers various awards, including:

  • Bharat Ratna – The highest civilian award.
  • Padma Awards (Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan) – Given for contributions in different fields.
  • Military Awards like Paramveer Chakra, Ashok Chakra, Shaurya Chakra – Given for bravery and exceptional service in the armed forces.

3. Why is it prohibited to employ children under 14 years of age in hazardous places?

Answer: The Indian Constitution prohibits employing children under 14 in hazardous places to prevent exploitation and ensure their right to education and a safe childhood. Hazardous work environments like factories and mines pose serious health risks to children.

4. Why has the Constitution given equal rights to all Indian citizens?

Answer: The Constitution has given equal rights to all citizens to ensure fairness and social justice. It prohibits discrimination based on religion, caste, gender, or place of birth, promoting unity and equality in Indian society.
