2. Explain the following statements with reasons.


1. In November 1939, provincial ministers of Indian National Congress gave their resignations.

  • When World War II began, the British Viceroy declared that India would join the war without consulting Indian leaders. In protest, the Indian National Congress ministers resigned from their positions in November 1939.

2. The Indian National Army had to lay down their arms.

  • After Japan’s defeat in World War II, the Indian National Army (INA) lost crucial support. Without resources and assistance, INA soldiers had no choice but to surrender.

3. The Parallel Government became a source of inspiration to the people.

  • The Parallel Government opposed British rule by organizing people’s courts, opposing moneylenders, spreading literacy, and promoting social justice. It inspired public participation in the freedom struggle.

1. How do you find the contribution of Shirishkumar to be inspirational?

  • Shirishkumar, a brave student leader from Nandurbar, led a protest against the British during the Quit India Movement. Despite being a child, he carried the national flag and was martyred during police firing, inspiring others to fight for freedom.

2. Why did the British Prime Minister send Sir Stafford Cripps to India?

  • During World War II, the British feared losing India’s loyalty. To gain Indian support for the war, Prime Minister Winston Churchill sent Sir Stafford Cripps in 1942 with proposals for granting dominion status after the war.

3. What kind of reaction was seen during the spread of news of the arrest of main leaders of the Indian National Congress?

  • After the arrest of Congress leaders during the Quit India Movement, people across India protested by attacking police stations, railway stations, and government buildings. The movement spread widely, showing public anger against British rule.
