History Question Answers Chapter 3 India’s Internal Challenges Class 9 Maharashtra Board

Question Answers For All Chapters – History Class 9

Exercise

1. Answer the following questions in detail.

(1) Which demands were put forward through the ‘Anandpur Sahib resolution’ by the Akali Dal?

The Anandpur Sahib Resolution was passed by the Akali Dal in 1973. It demanded that Chandigarh should be made part of Punjab, Punjabi-speaking areas should be merged with Punjab, and the state should get more autonomy. They also wanted a larger share of river waters, more Sikh recruitment in the army, and ‘holy city’ status for Amritsar.

(2) What can we do to end communalism?

To end communalism, people must trust each other and avoid linking religion with politics or problems. Education should promote equality and respect for all religions. Understanding history properly and focusing on real social issues instead of religious differences can help stop communal conflicts.

(3) When does regionalism become strong?

Regionalism becomes strong when some states develop more than others, making underdeveloped regions feel ignored. People start demanding special rights or autonomy for their state. To reduce regionalism, all regions should get equal opportunities for growth.

2. Write short notes on:

(1) Communalism

Communalism is when people prioritize their religion over national unity, leading to conflict. It creates hatred, division, and sometimes riots. In India, the British encouraged communalism to divide people. The best way to stop communalism is by promoting peace, equality, and respect for all religions.

(2) Regionalism

Regionalism means strong loyalty to one’s state or region rather than the whole country. It occurs when some states develop more than others, making underdeveloped states feel neglected. This can lead to demands for special rights, autonomy, or even separation. The solution to regionalism is balanced economic development.

3. Explain the following statements with reasons:

(1) It became necessary to carry out the ‘Operation Blue Star’.

In 1984, extremists led by Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale took control of the Golden Temple in Punjab and stored weapons inside. They planned violent attacks against the government. To restore peace, the Indian Army launched Operation Blue Star and removed the extremists from the temple.

(2) We should fight communalism with all our strength.

Communalism divides people, creates hatred, and weakens national unity. It can cause riots, loss of life, and destruction. A peaceful and united society is necessary for progress, so we must stop communalism by spreading harmony and respect for all religions.

4. Write the full forms:

MNF – Mizo National Front

NNC – Naga National Council

PLGA – People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army
