3. Explain the following concepts:


(1) The functions of the Rapid Action Force

Answer: The Rapid Action Force (RAF) handles emergencies like riots, bomb blasts, and communal violence. It responds quickly to restore law and order in troubled areas. The RAF plays a key role in maintaining peace during protests and festivals.

(2) Human Security

Answer: Human security means protecting people from dangers like terrorism, poverty, and natural disasters. It includes food security, health security, and protection of human rights. A secure society ensures people live safely and with dignity.

(3) Home Guard

Answer: The Home Guard assists the police and protects public property during emergencies. It helps in disaster relief, traffic control, and maintaining law and order. Home Guard volunteers serve as backup forces when needed.


4. Answer the following questions in brief.


(1) What are the threats to national security?

Answer: National security faces threats from external attacks by countries like Pakistan and China, including border disputes like the Kashmir issue. Inside India, terrorism, Naxalite movements, and issues like regionalism create instability. These challenges endanger both the country’s safety and its people’s peace.

(2) Write the functions of the Border Security Force.

Answer: The Border Security Force (BSF) protects India’s borders during peacetime and prevents smuggling or illegal activities. It patrols border areas to ensure safety and stop infiltrations. It also builds confidence among people living near the borders by keeping them secure.
