4. Explain the following concepts.


1. Shimla Agreement

The Shimla Agreement was signed in 1972 between India and Pakistan after the 1971 war. It aimed to resolve conflicts peacefully and improve diplomatic relations between both countries.

2. Indo-Nepalese Friendship Treaty

Signed in 1950, this treaty allows free movement of people and trade between India and Nepal. It strengthens cultural, economic, and political ties between both countries.

3. Macmahon Line

The Macmahon Line is the border between India and China, drawn by the British in 1914. China does not accept this border, which has led to disputes between the two countries.

4. Indo-Afghanistan Relations

India helps Afghanistan in infrastructure, education, and trade. India has also built roads, hospitals, and schools in Afghanistan to support its development.

1. Explain the background of cooperative relations between India and America.

India and America have strong relations in trade, defense, and technology. India buys weapons and aircraft from the USA, while both countries work together in space research and business investments.

2. Give some information about the efforts taken by India for the establishment of democracy in neighbouring countries with examples.

India has helped countries like Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka to strengthen democracy. India supported Bangladesh’s independence in 1971, assisted Nepal in forming a democratic government, and sent peacekeeping forces to Sri Lanka.

3. What is the role of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC)?

SAARC promotes economic cooperation, trade, and peace among South Asian countries like India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Maldives, and Afghanistan. It helps in education, health, disaster management, and cultural exchange.
