Articles एक प्रकार के Determiners हैं। Articles 3 होते हैं- A, An और The.

A और An को indefinite article (अनिश्चित) कहते हैं क्योकि इनका प्रयोग एकवचन के किसी अनिश्चित व्यक्ति, वास्तु, स्थान से पहले होता है। A/AN का Use – एकवचन संज्ञा पहले किया जाता है।

The को definite article (निश्चित) कहते हैं क्योकि इसका प्रयोग एकवचन के किसी निश्चित व्यक्ति, वास्तु या स्थान से पहले होता है। यह कुर्सी है। जब हम किसी खास चीज़ या व्‍यक्ति का नाम इस्‍तेमाल करते हैं, तो The का प्रयोग किया गया है.

Article का प्रयोग noun, adjective, adverb से पहले किया जाता है, लेकिन verb से पहले नहीं किया जा सकता।

उदाहरण : –

1. I saw a car. मैंने एक कार देखी।

2. An apple. एक सेब

3. The sun rises in the east. सूर्य पूरब में उगता है।

Important Note: बचपन में आपने पढ़ा होगा कि जिन noun का पहला लेटर vowel (a,e,i,o,u) है, उनसे पहले An लगाते हैं. असल में, लेटर के प्रयोग की जगह लेटर की आवाज़ पर ध्‍यान दिया जाता है. जैसे “An hour” एक घंटा, “An umbrella” को बोलते हुए अम्‍ब्रेला कहा जाता है, इसलिए इससे पहले An प्रयोग होगा. “University” बोलते हुए यूनिवर्सिटी कहा जाता है, तो य की आवाज के चलते A का प्रयोग होता है.

An “article” refers to a word that is used to define a noun as specific or unspecific. There are two types of articles

Use Article “The”

“The” is used when referring to a specific or known item or group of items.

Example: “The cat is on the roof.”

Use Article “A”

“A” is used before words that begin with a consonant sound.

Example: “I saw a car in the parking lot.”

Use Article “An”

“An” is used before words that begin with a vowel sound.

Example: “She is an excellent singer.”
