Discount for Competitive Exam – Quantitative Aptitude

Discount (बट्टा) In Hindi

(Different Types of Discounts)

Discount (बट्टा) In English

Marked Price: This is the price listed on the item, also known as MRP (Maximum Retail Price).
Selling Price: This is the actual price you pay for the item. It can be lower than the marked price if a discount applies.
Discount: The difference between the marked price and the selling price represents the discount you receive.

Different Types of Discounts:

Retail Discount: This is a discount offered to regular customers, typically shown as a percentage off the marked price.
Trade Discount: This is a discount given by manufacturers to wholesalers who buy in bulk.
Cash Discount: This is a special discount offered by sellers for early payment of an invoice.

  • Discount= Marked Price – Selling Price
  • Discount (%) = (Marked Price – Selling Price) / Marked Price × 100

Example:-
Question – A store is offering a 20% discount on all its items. If a shirt originally costs ₹150, what is the discounted price of the shirt?
Answer – Discount = Original Price × Discount Rate
Discount = ₹150 × 0.20
Discount = ₹30

So, the discount on the shirt is ₹30.

Now, we subtract the discount from the original price to find the discounted price:

Discounted Price = Original Price – Discount
Discounted Price = ₹150 – ₹30
Discounted Price = ₹120
