1. Based on NEP 2020: The new scheme follows the National Education Policy 2020 which recommends reforming Board Exams to reduce stress and coaching dependence.
2. Two Exams per Year: Students will appear for two Class X Board Exams every year – one main and one improvement exam.
3. Implementation Year: This new system will start from the 2026 CBSE Class X exams.
4. Main Objectives:
- Reduce exam pressure.
- Give students a chance to improve.
- Promote conceptual learning over rote memorization.
5. Exam Phases (2026):
- 1st Phase: 17 Feb – 6 Mar 2026
- 2nd Phase: 5 May – 20 May 2026
6. Subjects & Grouping:
- Core subjects: English, Hindi, Maths, Science, Social Science.
- Other subjects divided into:(a) Regional & Foreign languages(b) Remaining elective/vocational subjects.
7. Syllabus & Pattern:
- Full syllabus for both exams.
- Combination of objective (MCQ) and descriptive questions.
- Practical/Internal assessment conducted once only.
8. Result & Marks:
- 1st exam results by 20 April 2026.
- 2nd exam results by 30 June 2026.
- Final mark sheet will include both exam marks and best of two.
9. No Separate Exams:
- Sports students to appear in any one exam.
- No special/supplementary exam beyond these two phases.
10. Eligibility & Passing:
- Passing in all 5 subjects required.
- Students failing 1-5 subjects in 1st exam can reappear in the 2nd.
- Marks of 1st exam will be available in DigiLocker for provisional admission to Class XI.
11. Exam Centres & Fees:
- Same centre for both exams.
- Fees for both exams collected together; non-refundable.
12. Policy Review:
- Feedback will be taken and rules updated before finalization.
- CBSE Examination Bye-laws will be suitably amended.
