Summary in English
The play Twin Melodies is about Shruti, a young and talented violinist who is part of an Indo-Western fusion music group with her friends Iqbal, Avinash, and Peter. Although she enjoys playing fusion music, she is worried about telling her father, Nabin Sharma, who is a strict follower of Hindustani classical music and believes that only traditional music should be practised. Shruti respects her father’s opinions but also wants to explore new styles of music, which creates a conflict within her. With encouragement from her friends, she gathers courage and tells her father about the fusion concert, but he strongly disapproves and refuses to allow her, thinking it disrespects classical music. This leads to tension at home. Later, Shruti’s parents secretly attend her rehearsal, where they see her performing beautifully without losing the essence of classical music. Her father is impressed and realises that he was wrong to judge fusion music. With the help of her mother, he remembers his own past struggle when he chose violin against his family’s traditional expectations. Understanding this, he accepts Shruti’s choice, supports her, and even offers space for her group to practise. The play ends happily, showing that mutual understanding, respect, and open communication can bridge the gap between tradition and modern ideas.
