This story is about a young boy named Prashant, who showed great courage and leadership during a terrible cyclone that hit the town of Ersama in Odisha in October 1999.Prashant had gone to visit a friend in Ersama when a very strong storm and cyclone hit the area. The wind was blowing at 350 km/h, and heavy rain flooded everything. Trees were uprooted, houses destroyed, and many people and animals died. Prashant and his friend’s family had to stay on the roof for two days to save themselves. They survived by drinking tender coconut water from the fallen trees.
When the rain stopped, Prashant decided to go back to his village Kalikuda, which was 18 km away. The journey was full of danger-he had to walk through floodwaters, and he saw many dead bodies of people and animals. When he reached his village, he was heartbroken to see everything destroyed. Luckily, he found his family alive in a shelter.
At the shelter, people were starving and hopeless. Prashant, though only 19 years old, took leadership. He organized groups to bring food and clean the shelter. He also found orphans and widows and helped them rebuild their lives. He encouraged women to work in the food-for-work program and made children play games to make them happy again.
Instead of sending the orphans and widows to institutions, Prashant and the villagers decided to keep them in the community, where they would get love and care.In the end, Prashant’s pain healed as he dedicated himself to helping others. He became a hero and hope for his people.

यह कहानी प्रशांत नाम के एक युवा लड़के की है, जिसने अक्टूबर 1999 में ओडिशा (उड़ीसा) के एरसामा शहर में आए भयानक चक्रवात (cyclone) के समय साहस और नेतृत्व का परिचय दिया।प्रशांत अपने दोस्त से मिलने गया था जब बहुत भयंकर तूफान आया। हवा की रफ्तार बहुत तेज़ थी और मूसलाधार बारिश से सब कुछ डूब गया। पेड़ उखड़ गए, घर टूट गए और बहुत से लोग व जानवर मर गए। प्रशांत और उसके दोस्त का परिवार दो दिन तक छत पर फंसे रहे और नारियल का पानी पीकर ज़िंदा रहे।
जब बारिश रुकी, तो प्रशांत ने अपने गाँव कालीकुड़ा जाने का निश्चय किया। रास्ता बहुत मुश्किल था – हर जगह पानी भरा था और उसने मरे हुए इंसान और जानवरों को देखा। गाँव पहुँचकर उसने सब कुछ तबाह पाया, लेकिन सौभाग्य से उसका परिवार जिंदा मिला।
शरणस्थल (shelter) में लोग भूखे और दुखी थे। सिर्फ 19 साल की उम्र में प्रशांत ने नेता की भूमिका निभाई। उसने लोगों को संगठित किया, खाना लाने, सफाई करने और बीमारों की मदद का काम शुरू किया। उसने अनाथ बच्चों और विधवाओं की देखभाल की व्यवस्था की। महिलाओं को काम दिलवाया और बच्चों के लिए खेलकूद का आयोजन किया ताकि उनका दुख कम हो सके।
