The Lost Camel

Summary in Hindi

Summary in English

The story “The Lost Camel” revolves around two merchants searching for their missing camel in a desert. They encounter an old man and ask if he has seen their camel. The old man, instead of answering directly, asks specific questions about the camel’s characteristics: whether it is old, lame in one leg, blind in the left eye, and carrying wheat on one side and honey on the other. The merchants confirm all these details, growing suspicious that the old man has seen or even stolen their camel. Angrily, they accuse him and drag him to the Khalifa’s court. In court, the old man calmly denies ever seeing the camel and explains how he deduced its traits by observing clues in the environment. He noticed faint footprints indicating a lame leg, eaten bushes on one side suggesting blindness in the left eye, ants carrying wheat grains on one side, and bees buzzing on the other, pointing to honey. Impressed by the old man’s keen observation, the Khalifa dismisses the merchants, advising them to use their own eyes to find their camel. The story teaches the importance of observation, logical thinking, and not jumping to conclusions without evidence.
