Professional recognition

The Master of Business Administration is accredited by the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD). Professional registration may require an application to the professional body and may have additional or ongoing requirements beyond the completion of the degree. Please contact the relevant professional body for details.

Graduates of the Master of Business Administration may apply for membership with the Institute of Managers and Leaders (IML) and MBA Australasia (MBAus). Membership may be subject to additional or ongoing requirements beyond completion of the degree. Please contact the relevant professional body for details.

To qualify for the award of Master of Business Administration, students must complete a total of 180 credit points across 2 years.

Year 1

Year 1 requires the completion of 120 credit points including:

  • 90 credit points from chosen Core
  • 30 credit points from chosen Electives or specialisation

Year 2

Year 2 requires the completion of 60 credit points including:

  • 30 credit points from chosen Core
  • 30 credit points from chosen Electives or specialisation

Academic entry requirement

Prerequisites

Successful completion of an Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent).

Three years relevant managerial experience.

WAM – Weighted Average Mark (WAM) 60%

Applicants with more than eight years relevant managerial experience but without an undergraduate degree may be considered for professional entry.

Note: Meeting minimum prerequisites does not guarantee an offer of a place. Entry into all La Trobe courses is based on competitive selection and there may be limited places available.

Credit for previous study (advanced standing)

Credit for previous study (advanced standing) is the recognition of prior study or learning that can be counted towards a qualification. This can reduce the number of subjects required to complete your course. The amount of credit received depends on the level and relevance of your previous study and the number of subjects completed.

The University will designate courses where there is only admission into Year 1 of the course. In these cases, there is limited credit. See list of limited entry courses.

Our history

Discover our unique history, including our motto and coat of arms.

We have been one of Australia’s pioneering universities for more than 50 years. In 1967, 552 students enrolled at La Trobe University, the third university to open in Victoria, which has grown to accommodate more than 36,000 students, with over 7,000 international students from 110 countries.

We now have a network of campuses, with over 28,000 students at our Melbourne Campus and over 7,500 at our campuses in Albury-Wodonga, Bendigo, Mildura, Melbourne City (Collins Street), Shepparton and Sydney.

Our Armorial Bearings combine significant symbols that encapsulate its history, goals and pride in its Victorian genesis.

Australia is represented by the Australian wedge-tailed eagle, one of the world’s largest eagles. Victoria is represented by the sprigs of heath, the state’s floral emblem. The eagle is represented in La Trobe’s brandmark.

The open book refers to the University’s commitment to learning. The scallop shells are part of the La Trobe family bearings, and have been included to acknowledge the La Trobe name.

The French motto “Qui cherche trouve” (Whoever seeks shall find) is a modern version of the La Trobe family motto.
