Admission criteria

1. Qualifications

Mandatory for course entry

To be eligible to apply for the full-time MBA, you need to have:

• a minimum of three years of relevant work experience; and
• a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 65 or equivalent in your undergraduate degree;
• provide a one-page statement of motivation outlining what will be achieved professionally and personally by completing the course; and
• pass a selection interview (typically takes place a month following the application deadline).

Admission pathways

If your academic record does not meet the above criteria, a GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) score of 600+ may be required.

We are happy to consider applicants without a first degree who have an excellent career record. Candidates with no first degree but with substantial managerial experience are advised that GMAT 600+ may be required.

We consider each case holistically and on an individual basis. We look for evidence of communication skills; interpersonal skills; leadership skills; team-building skills; integrity and ethics; initiative; cross-cultural sensitivity; motivation and commitment.

Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)

While GMAT is not a specific requirement for candidates who meet our other admission criteria, students with GMAT scores within the target range will be more likely to receive an offer for entry into the program. You need to have a balanced score on all parts of the GMAT. You should aim for a score of 600+. Although we do not specify a minimum, we are highly unlikely to admit a candidate with a score below 500.

For qualifications awarded outside Australia, equivalencies and entry requirements are determined based on the country, institution, and qualification.

Sydney International Student Award

Receive a 20% contribution to your tuition fees

This award recognises the academic achievements of applicants from selected countries and regions.

The Sydney International Student Award celebrates our diverse and talented community of international students. We want to help motivated applicants to achieve their personal and academic goals, by supporting their study at the University of Sydney. Recipients will be awarded a University contribution of 20 percent of their tuition fee for the duration of their course.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this award, you must:

• be an international student
• hold citizenship in one of the countries or regions listed below
• receive admission into a full-time undergraduate coursework or postgraduate coursework degree, commencing in 2025*
• not be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or a permanent resident of Australia
• not have already started a degree at the University of Sydney at the time that you apply for the award. However, you are eligible if you are completing a degree here and are applying for the award with a second degree.

*This award is not available for the Master of Business Administration (MBA), Executive MBA (EMBA), study abroad, executive education programs, or courses offered in distance mode or to students participating in a Law Dual Degree pathway program.

What are the academic and English entry requirements?

There are specific academic and English language entry requirements for each course. To be eligible for admission, you need to meet both the academic and English language requirements for your chosen course. These requirements vary by course and level of study.

What is the process to apply for a course?

The application process primarily involves gathering documents such as evidence of your academic qualifications and English language proficiency, completing an application form either by yourself or with the help of an authorised agent, and paying an application fee. Some courses may also require additional documentation or an interview.

What are the key dates for applying and studying?

Semester 1 usually starts in late February and Semester 2 starts at the beginning of August each year. For Semester 1, you usually need to have submitted your application to study by a specific day in January. For Semester 2, it’s usually by mid-June. Are there admission pathway opt ions?

Yes, we offer various pathway options.

The Centre for English Teaching provides direct entry courses for undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

Our University of Sydney Preparation Programs (USPP) are pre-university programs delivered at Taylors College.

We also have articulation partnerships with international partners, allowing you to start your degree in your home country and complete it in Sydney.

How much does it cost to study a course?

In addition to tuition fees, there are other fees and costs such as Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC).

Do you offer scholarships or other financial aid or assistance?

There are a range of scholarships and financial assistance programs to support international students. These include merit-based scholarships, equity scholarships, and other financial aid or assistance which is usually offered by government partners and sponsorship bodies. Eligibility for scholarships and financial assistance varies depending on the course and level of study, as well as your personal circumstances.

Can I study online?

We do offer some fully online courses but they are not eligible for students on a student visa. Students on a student visa are required to study on campus. Visa regulations impose limits on online study.
