Prospective students do not need to apply for these awards as they will be nominated by the admissions committee; awards will be included in offer packages. These awards include:
Student awards (scholarships and grants) are non-repayable monetary awards issued based on criteria such as merit, financial need, community engagement, leadership and athletic performance.
Award: An award can be a scholarship, fellowship, prize, grant or bursary.
Grant: A monetary award based primarily on financial need. Sometimes “grant” and “bursary” are used interchangeably, but “grant” is the more common term used at U of T.
Scholarship: A monetary award based on academic excellence alone or in combination with financial need.
Thousands of non-repayable awards worth more than $100 million are available annually, based on merit, financial need, or a combination of both.
Admission awards are for newly admitted students entering the University of Toronto in year one of their undergraduate studies. Students are automatically considered for a variety of admission awards when they apply to U of T. There are also admission awards that require students to complete a separate application or awards profile.

The Award Explorer is a centralized, searchable database of thousands of awards from admissions to in-course and graduating awards. The database hold awards that are funded by the academic divisions, colleges, as well as awards that are centrally funded by the university as a whole. This tool can help you explore the diverse funding opportunities available to you. Most of our scholarships are awarded to multiple recipients. You can apply for as many awards as you like, and most awards can be combined with each other.
As a publicly funded institution, the University of Toronto is not able to offer direct financial aid to international students. You should look to your home country for financial aid programs and determine if you qualify for assistance.
Please be aware that before issuing a Study Permit, the Government of Canada requires that international students provide proof of financial support(external link)—to show that you are able to support yourself while in Canada.
Students studying at a Canadian university on a Study Permit are not eligible for financial assistance from Canadian government programs. We recommend that you consult with the funding agencies in your own country. Please note that documented protected persons or convention refugees are able to apply for Canadian government funding.
All students, including international students, are automatically considered for scholarships upon admission. Scholarships and entrance awards for international students are limited and competitive, due to the number of excellent students that apply to U of T. Please note that most scholarships and awards for international students do not cover the full cost of tuition. It is best to have other funding plans in place as well. The majority of our admission scholarships for international undergraduate applicants are automatically awarded as a part of the admissions review process. The two major admission awards are the University of Toronto Scholars Program and President’s Scholars of Excellence Program. No separate application is required as they are merit-based. International secondary applicants may also be considered for the Lester B. Pearson International Scholarship program if nominated by their high school. This scholarship program is intended to recognize students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement who are recognized as leaders within their school.

The International Scholar Awards are automatically awarded to exceptional international students across U of T’s largest divisions and faculties. These renewable awards are offered upon admission and have a total value of over $100,000.

Offered upon admission to selected international students in the Faculty of Arts & Science(external link) on the basis of merit. Students are automatically considered for this award, which is valued at up to $50,000 over four consecutive years, or until degree completion, whichever comes first (up to $20,000 in the first year and renewable for $10,000 in the second, third and fourth years). This award is not renewable for students admitted to the Faculty of Arts & Science prior to 2023.

How much does it cost to study at U of T?
Your university fees consist of tuition, incidental and ancillary fees, and are based on several factors. In addition, you’ll want to consider other costs such as books, supplies, residence, transportation, food and other expenses.
How do I apply for Financial Aid?
If you are a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person, there are many sources of financial aid available to help you cover the costs of your University of Toronto education – from OSAP and other government aid, to assistance provided by the University. Explore your options.

How do I apply for OSAP?
Apply online at https://www.ontario.ca/osap
Submit your OSAP application, then print and sign the consents and declaration pages – and any other required supporting documentation – and upload to your account on the OSAP website.
Follow the instructions provided to complete your online Master Student Financial Assistance Agreement (MSFAA) with the National Student Loan Service Centre.
If you are a returning applicant you may not need to submit any documentation.

How do I apply for Scholarships?
